The Jungle Book is PD. The film is a Korda film and often gets mistaken for a British Production, so some people assume it is covered by GATT. But it is a US production (RKO) and first country of publication was the US. The original Kipling stories were published in 1894, so the are long out of copyright in the USA. Kipling died in 1936 so most of his published copyrights have expired worldwide. Disney have a trade mark on "Walt Disney's Jungle Book" for use on all manner of merchandise, but the TM doesn't cover the film and TV class and doesn't give them exclusive right to "jungle", "book" or "Jungle Book" Disney put their name on things to make it look like the have the rights. For example, their recent "A Christmas Carol" movie based on Dickens' 1843 novella is covered in "Disney's"s with no reference to Charles Dickens. Even on the book tie-in, which is an unabridged version of the original text, there is no reference to the fact that this book is not written or owned by "Disney" - perpetuating the myth that Disney creates all the stories it tells. I realise that the list was possible PD films. There will always be some copyright films on IA. Especially while they have no moderators looking after this section.
